SyncML dient zum Synchronisieren von Adressbüchern, Terminkalendern zwischen verschiedenen Clients, wobei im Mittelpunkt ein Sync-Server steht, an den sich die verschiedenen Sync-Clients anmelden können.
Typischerweise befindet sich der Sync-Server auf einem Server-PC z.B. im eingenen LAN oder bei einem Dienstleister im Internet. Der Server verwaltet mehrere Unser mit mehreren Adressbüchen auf mehreren Endgeräten....
Typischerweise sind die Clients mobile Endgeräte d.h. SmartPhones, PDAs, Tablet PCs etc. Es sind aber auch SyncML-Clients auf PCs (Windows etc.) möglich z.B. Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird,...
SyncML Server Funambol
Funambol ist eine OpenSourceSoftware und besteht aus:
- Funambol Data Sync Server - Läuft auf z.B. auf Windows und hat die zentrale Datenbank
- Funambol Admin Tool - Damit kann der Admin auf den Server und Synchronisationen für User einrichten
- Java Demo Client - Damit kann man auf dem PC das Anmelden zur Synchronisierung testen aber auch zur "zentralen" Pflege von Adressbeständen auf dem PC, denn es sind die wichtigsten Adressfelder da z.B. Vorname, Nachname, Display-Name, Firma etc.
